Thanksday #36

I'd love to stay and chat, but I gotta make this quick. I'm heading to The Big City for a brief overnight stay, and most importantly, the sooner I leave home, the sooner I get a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Oh yes, my friends, it's time. And here in Timbuktu, I have to wait until I can gets me-self to a Starbucks to partake. And I will run, not walk to the nearest location off the mountain. And I'll enjoy (sans guilt) every single one of those 41 grams of sugar (and that's just the tall size, I'm afraid.)

(Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news.)

(And by the by, would it kill them to make a sugar-free version??)

But I digress. Time's a tickin' and Mama needs to still get in the shower.

I'm thankful this week for:

1. Pumpkin Spice Lattes. If you've ever loved fall so much that you just wanted to liquify it and drink it up in a recycled paper cup with a cardboard sleeve...then this is your drink. And you can get more customized, should you so choose. I get the tall with soy and a total of three shots. Because I like to have the shakes. Especially when driving to The Big City.

2. Boots. If it's fall enough for Pumpkin Spice Lattes, it's fall enough for boots in my book. Also, it's like 60 here. Duh.

3. God-Sized Gifts. I wrote earlier this week about my mentor showing up unexpectedly to our church and gifting me with a wonderful and encouraging word from God. I haven't stopped thanking Him all week. You can read about it here.

4. Favicons. Look up in your address bar where this site address is listed. See the little teeny-tiny icon that looks like the site header? I just figured out how to do that. So excited. (The little things, remember?) And now it feels like my site is customized.

5. Wordpress. Okay, so this site is run through Blogger and has been forever. But I'm slowly switching over to Wordpress. It's a long process for me, because I don't really know what I'm doing. "But why switch then? Why fix what's not broken?" The answer to that is simple. I am never content. I always have to be changing something. And I'm pretty satisfied with the header and look and all that right now...so instead of changing the aesthetics, I'll change the platform. Plus, Wordpress seems to offer a lot more functionality and customization. And let's be honest. Who doesn't want a little more customization in their life? I do!

6. Indeed! I have no idea how it started or even when, but I realized the other day that my standard answer to anything lately is "Indeed!" Such as:

Person #1 - "Beautiful day today, isn't it?"

               Me - "Indeed it is!"

Person #2 - "Wasn't that a great sermon (that your husband preached on Sunday)?"

               Me - "Indeed it was!"

Person #3 - "I wish there was something we could do to stop those fires in Texas."

               Me - "Indeed."

7. Red Toenail Polish. I am a huge, die-hard fan of the nude toenail. All spring and summer my toes will forever be a nice nude shade with lots of shiny clear on top. But over the weekend, thoughts of fall, MAUI and Pumpkin Spice Latte permeated my brain, I decided to switch it up. Out of the blue, I painted my toes red. (Does that sentence make you think in purple?)

The first day was weird. I swear I didn't recognize my own feet. It was like the red polish was a wig for my toes. But the next day, I really liked it. And now it's growing on me. And the red toes with my new black sandals (that I got for 50% off) look amazing together. Talk about functionality!

8. (wo)Man of Honor Dress. On Saturday, I left the kids with my in-laws so I could run to the store to pick up something. And the place was closed. Left alone sans children, I decided not to waste the precious opportunity and went to do a little window shopping. Little did I expect to find a fabulous dress to wear at my brother's wedding. The wedding that's in MAUI. The dress seemed to fit great (miracle), everyone approved (had to text the husband and brother to ensure it would work). The bonus was it was 20% off! I love, love, love finding exactly what you're looking for when you're not expecting to find it. Now, just gotta figure out the shoes and jewelry.

9. Public Speaking. If you know me AT ALL, you know how much I loathe, hate, detest any kind of public speaking or situation in which I am being looked at. It makes me turn beet red, shake and get all weirded out. (Case in point: I literally dragged my dad down the wedding aisle because as soon as I saw everyone watching me walk in, I freaked out. I figured the sooner I got to the front the sooner I wouldn't see them watching me.)

Well this week, I did this quick little 10-minute talk to a group of teens at high school on their lunch break. And it was okay. I did turn red, but my voice didn't get the normal shaky-trembly-sounds-like-I-might-cry thing it usually does. And I think it probably went better than I expected for one main reason: I had to rely on God. I had a thing already prepared and ready to go...but literally on the way there I felt so strongly God wanted me to share about something else. So I just went with it, and He filled up my mouth with what to say (Psalm 81:10).

It wasn't the most eloquent, life-altering talk whatsoever. And if you've never talked to teens during their lunch break while they're eating, it's kind of like talking to a brick wall. I have no idea if they even listened. BUT, I'm thankful that I'm a teeny, tiny bit getting less weirded out by public speaking. And no...YES-I'M-TALKING-TO-YOU...it in no way means I'm ready to try acting in a production!

10. A Quick Getaway. I am so thankful that Greg is man enough to take care of everything while I scoot away for a little 24-hour adventure for a belated birthday celebration. And I'm thankful I'll drive to The Big City alone.

Your turn! Let me know what you're thankful for this week and share the love. Leave a comment below or link up with Candra. It'll make you feel better than a customized Pumpkin Spice Latte. Indeed.

I decided to re-try the Pumpkin Spice Lattes this year--and actually like it this year. Although, it could be because I ask for soy instead of regular milk now and order it decaf. Yum, yum, yum. I've had 2 in the past 2 days :P It's too expensive to do all the time for me, but I have found a yummy fall drink!!

I love that you call it The Big City

I still have to think of you as "a pastors wife" I don't know, I just think of you as "Monica and Greg" ---y'all are all grown up and pastors!

I think you speak fabulously and really really enjoyed our small groups [although too seldom] at your casa. You are a life-changing-speaker.

Stop saying MAUI.

Pumpkin spice lattes always make me think of you, as do boots, fall, watches [a post you did awhile back], and although I love you. I only love Fall from that recent list I just made. I think I'd rather drink the watch or the boots than the pumkin, but I am very happy it makes you happy. As do my white chocolate mochas, although todays---was split all over me before I was able to drink :( boo. Don't worry, I went back later, to which Solomon [3] asked "why are we going to Starbucks again today?" ha!

I will have to find a way to use Indeed! today.

Congrats on the bargain dress. I love those moments too.

I agree with Candra. It is a shame you don't like public speaking because you always manage to enlighten me when we talk to each other. You have given me so much wisdom over the last few years. Go and share it!

I am not a big coffee drinker but I am willing to try your Pumpkin Latte.
